Fishing Essentials For New Enthusiasts

posted by Chris Valentine

If you are a fishing enthusiast there are some things that you need to make sure you have for your next fishing trip. When going fishing, the quality of your gear is very important because it will help increase your chances of landing more fish. Here are some of the most important fishing essentials for new fishing enthusiasts.

Fishing Net

If you plan on doing some serious fishing you will want to invest in a fishing net. The size of the fishing net you buy will depend on the type of fishing you plan on doing and the species of fish you are targeting. If you are fishing from a boat and plan on catching large fish like salmon or pike, you will want to make sure you have a large net. If you are fishing for a smaller species like bass, you may want to use a smaller rubber net because rubber nets are generally smaller in size and they do not get as tangled.

Lures and Tackle

Having the proper tackle is important if you want to actually catch fish when you go fishing. Make sure you buy high-quality lures and tackle that is designed for the species of fish you are targeting. As a general rule, remember that plastic baits are great for catching bass and panfish and spoons are good for catching pike, salmon, and trout. If you are looking for a quality plastic bait brand I would recommend Berkely and if you are in search of a reputable spoon company you should go with Williams.

Fishing Rod and Reel

Before you go fishing, make sure you have a good fishing rod and reel combo. Having a good fishing rod can make all the difference when it comes to catching fish. When you are purchasing a rod you will want to get one that is durable so that it will not break, but you will also want the tip to be sensitive so that you can feel the fish bite. When it comes to fishing reels there are three main types which are bait casters, spinning reels and, closed reels. Each reel is best suited for different fishing situations and it is important that you get a reel that corresponds to the type of fishing you will be doing. Bait casters are generally designed for deep-sea fishing and trolling large open waters. This is because the reel can hold a lot of lines which is needed to fight larger fish and achieve greater depths.  According to a source from US Angler, spinning rods are designed for casting in windy conditions and are great for fishing from land. Spinning reels are also well suited for ice fishing and are the most common type of ice fishing reel. Closed reels are generally designed for beginners and children because they are generally easy to use. The downside of using a closed reel is that they do not cast very far and they are best used when fishing directly off a dock for smaller panfish.

Fish Finders

If you do a lot of fishing from your boat you will want to make sure you invest in a high-quality fish finder to help you locate schools of fish. A fish finder will allow you to see how deep the water is, the temperature of the water, and it will indicate where the fish are swimming in the water column. Fishing from a boat without a fish finder is like trying to find a needle in a haystack because it can be very hard to locate fish in large open waters.

Fishing can be a very fun hobby, but if you want to get serious about fishing and catch something you will need to make sure you have the proper gear. Fishing gear that is low quality can prevent you from catching fish so that is why it is important to invest in higher quality equipment for your angling needs. Remember to purchase lures and tackle from reputable brands because the cheaper tackle companies use harmful materials in the environment. Also, if you do a lot of fishing from land make sure you invest in a good spinning reel so you can make far casts. If you are planning on fishing from a boat you should definitely have a fish finder as it will allow you to locate and track fish in the water column. Overall, remember to invest in the right gear to make sure you get the most out of your fishing experience.
