Is Chiropractic Care Worth Your Time and Money?

posted by Chris Valentine

Like a lot of alternative treatment, some people will swear by chiropractic care and some people will swear at it, and some have never even tried it. Since 2011, it’s been estimated that around 60 million people have gone to a chiropractor, and 77% found their treatment to be ‘very effective’. This survey was a Gallup Poll done on behalf of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

How often, and does it work?

Those are often the first questions people ask in practically everything. We’ll get to that, but let’s first see how it works.

The practice mainly deals with the spine. In essence, it is the alignment of the spine through a series of spinal manipulations. The theory is that misaligned spinal bones produce nerve interference and this is what causes pain, discomfort and/or illness. It is a fact that certain spinal adjustments can relieve certain types of back or neck pain. Alignment is a major factor when dealing with chronic pain of all kinds. So the chiropractor’s job is to re-establish spinal mobility back to normality and this lessens the pain you are experiencing. First Choice Chiropractic Brisbane are set up to help people who suffer from a variety of ailments through this practice that treats backaches, headaches, shoulder, foot and neck pain, and there are plenty of clinics that provide similar services. With a bit of research, you can find one in your area, check out their website and figure out the details.

Tests

Based on the function and structure of your spine, types of specific treatments will be decided. A typical examination will often include three parts: a consultation, case history, and physical examination, laboratory analysis and X-ray examination.

Choosing a chiropractor

You have to be careful on who you choose to have their hands on you manipulating your back and neck. Of course you can ask someone who has tried it. But if you’re using the internet to find a good chiropractor, you should be aware because quacks come in all walks of life. A chiropractor should be trained:

  • In examining the joints, bones, muscles and tendons of the spine, head, and other areas of the body to spot any misalignment or defects.
  • To carry out different neurologic tests and skilled in performing orthopedic, and cardiovascular examinations.
  • To assess muscle strength and tone and range of motion alongside of other assessments with the lower back.
  • To use diagnostic studies and tools such as radiography (X-rays), laboratory diagnostics and neurodiagnostics.

Time

You can expect frequent visits. This is a hands-on treatment which takes time for your body to adjust to. In healthcare, we find three stages: urgent, rehabilitative, and maintenance. In the urgent stage, visits are frequent. These lessen as you enter into rehabilitate and maintenance stages.

How much?

This really depends on the type of treatment you will receive, so the range could be anywhere between $30 -$200 per session. An estimated average is around $60 per session.

Is it important?

Chiropractic care is considered the least invasive treatment to help people. Suffering from chronic neck or back pains is no joke and this treatment provides hope to lessen the pain and enjoy well-being. It may take a bit of time to have a really noticeable effect, but it certainly works. Just make sure that you get a certified chiropractor and you’re good to go!
