Take Up These 6 Activities to Add Some Excitement into Your Life

posted by Chris Valentine

There comes in time in just about everyone’s life when things get a little dull. Maybe you’ve been at the same job for a long time, or your kids are finally out of the house. Whatever the cause, when the time comes, you’ll likely want some new hobbies to add some excitement to your life. If so, here are some great suggestions to get you started.

Geocaching

If you love walking around outside and exploring new places, you should definitely learn more about Geocaching. Geocaching is essentially a real-world treasure hunting game. All over the country people have hidden little caches and logged their GPS coordinates online. Using a Geocaching app or website, like this one, users can get the location of a cache, then head into the world to try and find it. At these caches you may find little toys, notes from previous explorers, or even a notebook where people can sign their names. Players are asked to leave something else behind if you take something out, so that future explorers can enjoy the cache as well.

Archery

Archery is one of the oldest hobbies, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. It requires a good deal of skills and practice in order to get good at it, but once you get it down, you’ll love that feeling of hitting the bullseye. If you have a big enough backyard you may be able to set up an archery range, but more likely you’ll need to find a local range in your area to go to. Arrows are dangerous, so whenever you use one you have to take plenty of precautions for your own safety and those around you.

Martial Arts

For those of you who want a great workout, while also learning some useful life skills, consider taking up a martial arts class. There are several forms of martial arts, but each one of them will teach you discipline, focus, self-defense, and give you a great workout at the same time. If you’re primarily interested in learning self-defense, you should consider learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as according to center for BJJ in Houston, its “Proven to be the most effective martial art for self-defense”. Taking up martial arts is difficult at first as your body adjusts but give it a few weeks and you’ll feel better than ever before.

Musical Instrument

Many people dream of being able to play a musical instrument, but never get around to learning. If you don’t want to be one of them, now is the perfect time to sign up for some lessons. Pick an instrument that interests you – whether it be the piano, guitar, electronic drums, ukulele or something else – then find a place near you that offers lessons. If you can’t find a dedicated music lessons location, you can probably find private instructors who can either teach you at your home, or in their own. Another possibility is to find video lessons online, but this comes with some limitations.

Flying Lessons

To really add some excitement into your life, take up flying. Imagine the thrill you’ll have when you have full control of a plane, and you get to take it up into the air for the first time. Flying is a thrilling experience, and the learning process is just as fun. Learning to fly takes a decent amount of time, and the lessons can be expensive, but if you have the time and resources available, this is an excellent hobby to add some excitement into your routine.

Computer Programming

Finally, for those of you who would prefer to keep their feet on the ground, and perhaps behind a desk, consider learning some computer programming. Learning to write programs for computers is not only fun, but it can give you a marketable skill in the workplace. By learning computer programming you could create games, develop an app for your phone, or even create the next great piece of software that generates a fortune. There are many programming languages out there, but if you want some simple ones that are in high demand, start with Python, PHP, or Java.

Find a Hobby that Excites You

The above list is far from extensive. There are hundreds of things you could take up as a hobby in your spare time. The goal is to find something that excites you, based on your own interests. The above list is a great place to start, but only you know what truly excites you. So, start thinking about what types of things you’d like to try or to learn, then find a way to begin. Everyone deserves some excitement in their life, so go find that hobby that does it for you.
